Bioinformatics, which combines biology, computer science, and artificial intelligence, is a rapidly growing discipline in biological research and computer science research. Bioinformatics arose out of a need to rapidly expand and critique large volumes of biological data, especially in the area of genomics. Modern biological and biomedical research involves a significant informatics component.
The Bioinformatics Certificate provides undergraduate students who have backgrounds in biology or computer science with the background in bioinformatics that is needed to find employment in industries that employ persons with bioinformatics experience or in order to participate in research projects that use bioinformatics.
