VICO 2392 - Photojournalism II: Picture Story


An examination of the techniques and journalistic practices used to create the photographic narrative form. Students are required to have an approved professional camera and appropriate lenses (f 2.8 or faster and at least one with an effective view wider than 35mm and one with an effective view of 100mm or greater), flash, and tripod for the course. Check with the department for current guidelines. Cooperative buying fee.

Requisites: C or better in (VICO 2390 and JOUR 1330) or C or better in (2390 and ORXX24)

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the history of multiple images working together.
  • Students will be able explain and apply the photojournalistic narrative techniques to creating visual stories.
  • Students will be able to explain and apply effective sequencing strategies in the visual stories they create.
  • Students will be able to explain and apply industry standard ethics to the new works they create.
  • Students will be able to synthesize knowledge from journalistic reporting courses, research, and communciation photography techniques to create new work in the photojournalism field.
  • Students will be able to reflect on the process of constructing photojournalistic narratives in order to articulate improved approaches to future projects.
  • Students will be able to conduct a self-assessment at the end of the term through the creation of a portfolio that requires reflection on their progress.
