PHYS 4941 - Undergraduate Research


Independent research for qualified students in physics and astronomy.

Requisites: Permission required and 20 hours in PHYS and/or ASTR, and Sr only.
Credit Hours: 3
OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Learning and Doing, Capstone: Capstone or Culminating Experience
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 research

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to identify and consider real-world physics and astronomy research questions in a research lab setting.
  • Students will be able to develop and execute a research plan in physics and astronomy.
  • Students will be able to critically state, describe, and consider a physics or astronomy issue or problem.
  • Students will be able to use information from sources with enough interpretation/evaluation to develop a comprehensive analysis or synthesis in physics and astronomy.
  • Students will be able to systematically and methodically analyze assumptions and carefully evaluate the relevance of contexts when presenting a position in physics and astronomy discussions.
  • Students will be able to state a specific position that is thoughtful, recognizes complexities, and acknowledges limitations in physics and astronomy.
