Program Overview

The chemistry-predentistry B.S. degree provides a sound background in the chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences, mathematics and physics courses that are required for dental school.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Change to Program Policy

Students wishing to change or add a chemistry major or minor at Ohio University should go to the Undergraduate Student Services Office in the College of Arts and Sciences located on the first floor of Wilson Hall (Main Green).

External Transfer Admission

No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Students with a B.S. degree in chemistry–predentistry typically go on to dental school.  However, other higher education and career opportunities also exist depending upon the interest of the graduate.

Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry, you are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society. Completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify you for certification.

Complete a total of 38 semester hours of CHEM coursework, including the following:

Chemistry Materials Fee


All chemistry laboratory courses have a consumable materials fee. In addition, students must purchase a $20 breakage card from the Office of the Bursar, the unused portion of which will be refunded.
