For a description of the Board duties, please refer to the article published in the Summer issue of the Interchange. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Candidate for President-Elect Joseph Keferl, Rh.D., CRC NRA Member Since 1992 Hello fellow friends and members of ORA! It is with great respect and privilege that I submit my candidacy to run for President-Elect of the Ohio Rehabilitation Association. As someone born, educated, and employed in the State of Ohio, I am deeply invested in the missions we carry as Rehabilitation professionals. I also recognize the challenges we all face-particularly during this time of economic instability. Our field has been faced with unprecedented threats to carrying out our mission to serve, advocate, and equalize our communities for ALL people. Although we have always been able to answer the mandate of "do more with less," many of us are feeling new pressures to make tougher decisions about staffing, fiscal resources, travel and training budgets, service outcomes, and career paths for ourselves and for those we serve. Professional organizations at local, state, and national levels have been pushed to operate and serve YOU with a shrinking membership, decreases in funding, and increased costs of providing the quality services you expect. Despite these tough conditions, I feel that the Ohio Rehabilitation Association - YOUR organization, will emerge a stronger, leaner, more effective organization that will continue to lead Ohio and the country for years to come. I believe my experience serving on Boards at the local, state, and national levels gives me a "wide angle" perspective of our field, which will help to guide our organization. . . . . . . . I am a strong advocate for listening and responding to members, challenging stagnant thinking, forming relationships-interpersonally, professionally, and across organizations, and facilitating the evolution of our professional organizations to better serve you. With your vote, I hope to serve YOU as President-Elect of the Ohio Rehabilitation Association. Thank you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ CANDIDATES FOR BOARD MEMBER-AT-LARGE (3 are elected each year) LINDA BIHLMAN, MRC, CRC, CBIS NRA Member Since 1989 I have worked in various types of rehabilitation including public, in the provision of vocational rehabilitation services for a treatment provider, as well as in the private arena, working with injured workers. I am passionate about the importance of what we, as rehabilitation professionals, provide to individuals with disabilities and their families. I believe it is imperative that we support and share in supporting and furthering our profession and its purpose, by mentoring individuals who are coming into our ranks, by ensuing provision of opportunities for growth both personally and professionally, and by encouraging awareness and action in legislative arenas. If provided the opportunity to serve on the Ohio Rehabilitation Association board, I would want to work in support of the current goals of the organization as well as assist in developing strategies and solutions for the challenges being brought forth by the changes in funding and other limitations our clients continue to deal with in making progress toward their personal goals. MIKE MACGUFFIE, M.Ed., MRC, CRC NRA Member Since 1990 My name is Mike MacGuffie and I'm a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. My educational credentials include an Associates degree in Mental Health Technology, a Bachelors degree in Counseling Psychology, a Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Masters degree in Education in School Psychology. During graduate school, I worked approximately three years as a research assistant, researching the existential issues associated with disabilities, the social impact of disabilities and so forth. I also have interests in the psychological aspects of disability, assistive technologies and psychopharmacology. Upon graduation, I started working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor within the BWC system and have done so for the past 11 years. I have experience working long-term disability cases and working with disabled veterans through the VA system. As a board member, I would like to use my skills and expertise in assisting those with disabilities, help improve the current disability service system in the state of Ohio, and assist the Ohio Rehabilitation Association in meeting all goals and objectives for the coming year. CATHY RIDENBAUGH, MRC, LPC NRA Member Since 1975 I have an undergraduate degree in Sociology and a graduate degree from Wright State in Dayton in Rehabilitation Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been a member of NRA for 34 years. In 1994 I was President of the Ohio Division of JPD and currently hold that position again. Since 1975 I have worked for the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission as a Counselor, Counselor Manager and Employer Services Specialist. On July 31, 2009 I retired from ORSC, but not from rehabilitation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Ohio Rehabilitation Association Vickie Leeming, ORA Home Secretary 6111 Chaney Drive, Toledo, OH 43615 Phone: (419) 841-8889 Fax: (419) 843-2243 Email: ora at bex.net [mailto: ora at bex.net ] Website: www.ohiorehab.org [ http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102775226314&s=578&e=001CsLAuq7gm8erFNXLT2jh- INDNNeX- 1PeJWgGfoyfIFAVzWmGUoXTVNVcrB6VaLj8N5Y2Ih28LyJzv_xOtUz9s_HRXWYU8KqvDgkD-__qMo- Cqet-EiOIpA==] Suman Srinivasan, 2009 Nominating Committee Chair newlinkrehab at aol.com [mailto: newlinkrehab at aol.com ] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Candidate for Secretary Beth Simone, M.Ed., CRC, CDMS, CVE, LPC NRA Member Since 1979 Currently Beth is working in northeast Ohio as a self-employed vocational consultant providing vocational counseling and evaluation services for Summa Health System's occupational rehabilitation program, area public and private vocational rehabilitation agencies and several area high school special education departments.
