Specific Position Characteristics: The Counselor Education Program at CSUF invites applications for an assistant professor level position in our CACREP accredited master’s degree in counseling program/marriage and family therapy option. The successful candidate will teach core courses in counseling and marriage and family therapy. Experience with children, mental health disparities, assessment, school counseling practicum and/or marriage and family therapy practicum is desirable. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to supervise students engaged in couples, family and child/adolescent counseling in the program’s nationally recognized off campus counseling center. Other responsibilities include working with faculty on program planning, development, evaluation and student advising. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in scholarly collaboration with other faculty from their hiring cohort regarding health disparity issues. Qualifications: Academic Preparation: An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in counselor education with an emphasis in children’s mental health counseling or marriage and family therapy or closely related field is required for appointment to a tenure track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered for a lectureship: however, preference will be given to candidates who do or will possess the doctorate prior to August 2011. Teaching or Other Professional Experience: Experience working in children’s mental health settings is strongly recommended. Candidates should demonstrate skills in counseling research, ability to direct and supervise students, and have familiarity with family counseling. Candidates should be licensed or license-eligible as an MFT in California and are expected to demonstrate a commitment to or potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
