Dear CACREP Liaison:

CACREP Advocacy Week begins this week! Today's advocacy activity for faculty members, students, and graduates is focused on PROGRAM ADVOCACY:

Kick off this year's Advocacy Week by creating a video to promote your accredited counseling program and enter it into the Advocacy Week Video Contest. Program videos should be designed to raise awareness about the counseling program at your university- like a commercial where you identify your program highlights (e.g., faculty expertise, unique training approach, CACREP accreditation) to market the program and reach out to prospective students. Of utmost important, videos should address the question, "What makes counseling different than other helping professions?" The contest is open to both faculty members and students and the first place prize is a $500 AMAZON GIFT CARD. The contest will open February 1st and video submissions will be accepted through February 27, 2015.

If video production isn't your thing, you can still advocate for your counseling program in other ways. CACREP encourages faculty members, students, and graduates to examine their own counseling program and spend some time advocating for issues "close to home" within the program. This can be done by individuals or in groups. Identify a need within your counseling program and develop an action plan to address the need or advocate for change. A brief list of program advocacy ideas will be provided below to help get the conversation started.
