The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology Department of Educational Studies Assistant Faculty Position: Counselor Education (School Counseling) The College of Education and Human Ecology invites applicants for an assistant professor, full-time (9 month) position in Counselor Education – School Counseling. The Counselor Education program is a dynamic, nationally ranked graduate program offering a PhD and two MA tracks in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Both tracks prepare students for licensure in their areas. The School Counseling track places special emphasis on social justice; urban schools; and working with students of color, low income populations, and other diverse student populations. Furthermore, the School Counseling track emphasizes the ASCA National Model with a focus on counseling; leadership; and child, adolescent, and adult development. We have a vibrant partnership with our community schools, and the ideal candidate will have skills and interest in fostering these interdisciplinary collaborative relationships working with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, etc. The Counselor Education program has a commitment to diversity at the research, training, and service levels. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Earned doctorate in counselor education with an emphasis in school counseling; a developing record of scholarship or appropriate training to develop a record of focused scholarship and research in school counseling; a commitment to secure extramural funding to support research and scholarship in school counseling and related urban school issues; evidence of a strong identity as a professional counselor; interest in counselor education and school counseling as a component of an integrated services delivery model in urban K-12 education and community settings; currently licensed or willing to become licensed as a school counselor in Ohio; abilities in collegiate teaching in both school counseling and general counseling courses; ability to advise graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels in school counseling and capable of supervising thesis and dissertation projects; strong interest in and familiarity with the ASCA model for school counseling; ability to demonstrate competence in child, adolescent, and adult development through strong interest in providing in-service training and outreach to urban public schools; ability to use technology in instruction; willingness to contribute to accreditation efforts with CAEP (formerly NCATE) and CACREP; and an ability and desire to collaborate with scholars in other disciplines. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will conduct research in the area of school counseling as a discipline and pursue extramural funding related to the applicant’s area of research and scholarship, teaching, and service; collaborate in research and scholarship with faculty in similar or other disciplines; provide graduate instruction, including master’s and doctoral level courses in general counselor education and school counseling; participate in outreach and service activities associated with professional development in schools and other practitioner-related activities, particularly in urban schools and community settings; advise master’s and doctoral level graduate students with a focus on school counseling; use technology in instruction; provide leadership in service related to school counseling and youth assistance at the local, state, and national levels; collaborate with faculty and students in similar and related disciplines, and in general contribute to a nationally ranked counselor education program.
