John Ackison is a dedicated union leader and facilities management professional at Ohio University Lancaster, where he has proudly served as a strong advocate for workers’ rights. With extensive experience in contract negotiations, arbitration, mediation, disciplinary hearings, grievances, and fact findings, John brings both practical expertise and unwavering commitment to his work.
Since 2019, John has led as Union President for Ohio University’s AFSCME local, representing approximately 600 collective bargaining members across the main campus and five regional campuses. Under his leadership, the union has successfully negotiated multiple full contracts and wage reopeners, ensuring fair treatment and better conditions for members.
John also serves as Regional Vice President for AFSCME Ohio Council 8. He sits on both the Council’s Executive Board and the AFL-CIO Southeast Area Labor Federation Executive Board. His active participation in the Central Labor Council and support for labor-friendly political initiatives underscore his dedication to the broader labor movement.
