Katherine Fisher
Visiting Artist-Teacher of Piano
Katherine Fisher serves on the piano faculty of the Ohio University School of Music in Athens, Ohio. She teaches applied piano and piano pedagogy, coordinates the group piano program, and mentors graduate teacher assistants.
Katherine is internationally recognized in the field of piano pedagogy as a creator of the innovative method Piano Safari. Along with co-author Julie Knerr Hague, she has published well over one hundred books and pedagogical materials. The Piano Safari method and its supplemental teaching material is distributed throughout the world and is used by thousands of piano teachers and students.
She is a frequent headline presenter at both national and international conferences. Recent live engagements include the European Piano Teachers Association conference in Iceland, (2023) the Centro para la Pedagogia de los Instruments de Cuerda Conference in Madrid, Spain, (2023) the Music Teachers National Association Conference in Atlanta, (2024) Ohio University Piano Pedagogy Seminar, (2024) the Louisiana State Music Teachers Association State Conference, (2024) a guest artist residency at Wichita State University, (2025) the Oklahoma State Music Teachers Association State Conference, (2025) the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, (2025) the European Piano Teachers Association Conference in Birmingham, England (2025) and the Wisconsin State Music Teachers Association State Conference (2025).
In addition to live engagements, Katherine also provides virtual workshops for piano teacher associations and university students enrolled in pedagogy programs across the United States. She is co-creator of the Piano Safari Pedagogy Institute, which provides online courses and pedagogical training for piano teachers around the world.
A Yamaha Artist, Katherine is a member of the Fisher Piano Duo with husband Christopher Fisher. The duo has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They are co-authors of the revised and expanded edition of Piano Duet Repertoire (Indiana University Press, 2016).
A native of Ohio, Katherine received her degrees from the University of Oklahoma (MM in Piano Performance and Pedagogy) and the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music (BM in Piano Performance). Her former teachers include Jeongwon Ham, Jane Magrath, Barbara Fast, Karin R. Edwards, and Nancy Bachus.
