
Dr. Pamela Kaylor is a Professor of Instruction at Ohio University Lancaster, where she teaches across both the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Communication Studies departments. Her teaching and research interests include women’s and gender studies, advocacy, intercultural communication, qualitative research, and rhetoric. She is especially passionate about creating opportunities for students to engage with real-world issues through a lens of equity, inclusion, and global awareness.
Dr. Kaylor holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from Ohio University (2002), as well as an M.A. in Organizational Communication (1998) and dual B.S. degrees in Organizational Communication and Sociology (1996) from Murray State University.
With over 25 years of service to Ohio University, Dr. Kaylor is a dynamic leader on campus and in the region. She co-chairs the Celebrate Women annual conference and STEM Discovery Day , which connects hundreds of middle school students with STEM role models. She also serves on a number of university committees, including the Juneteenth committee, and the Student Experiential Engagement Scholarship Selection Committee.
As a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Fellow, Dr. Kaylor has led globally connected classrooms and helped form partnerships with institutions in Mexico, China, the Netherlands, Thailand, Vietnam, and Spain. Her students have completed collaborative international projects, and she is currently developing a study abroad experience in Thailand.
Her advocacy extends into the community through longtime involvement in anti-violence and equity work, including leadership with The Lighthouse Domestic Violence Shelter and organizing events such as Take Back the Night rallies and Social Justice Week .
Dr. Kaylor has received numerous honors for her teaching, research, and community service, including the Regional Higher Education Distinguished Lecturer Award, the Social Justice in the Classroom Award, the Jane Johnsen Women of Vision Award, and the 2017 & 2023 Professor of the Year designations. She was a finalist for Ohio University’s Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence and is a recipient of multiple student-nominated teaching and service recognitions. She has also been honored with state-level awards in both Ohio and Kentucky, including being named a Kentucky Colonel and Ambassador of Good Will.
Through her dedication to teaching, community engagement, and global education, Dr. Pamela Kaylor continues to inspire students and colleagues alike.
