OHIO’s Dynamic Strategy sets out to build on our founding purpose and embrace our existing excellence. Beginning in Fall 2023, thousands of faculty, staff, students and alumni engaged in refining our University’s mission and vision and designing goals and strategies to guide our institution’s future. The objective was to craft bold, audacious ideas to move us forward and inform a roadmap to guide our work for the next three years.
To guide the development of the Dynamic Strategy, President Gonzalez divided the planning into four areas of excellence in which she hoped to define distinctive goals. Three of those are built around the public institution’s calling – teaching and learning, research and discovery, and outreach and engagement. The fourth centers on the people and culture that undergird and enable the first three.
Pillars
-
Learn
OHIO will elevate both teaching and research, expand experiential learning, and invest in innovative educational technology.
-
DISCOVER
OHIO will increase distinction in two focused areas of research and accelerate emerging areas of discovery to address humanity’s most urgent challenges.
-
ENGAGE
OHIO will actively engage with partners to drive prosperity in the region, meet the needs of the state, and prepare students for careers.
-
WORK
OHIO will become a destination employer for those passionate about the mission of public higher education.
Implementation Framework
The implementation of the Dynamic Strategy will be led by Executive Vice President and Provost Don Leo and Vice President of University Communications and Marketing Robin Oliver. They have charged four Executive Leadership Teams with responsibility for the successful implementation of each of the pillars.
In addition, President Gonzalez will charge a Dynamic Strategy Advisory Committee to provide input to the executive leadership teams on planned activities and prioritization. Faculty and staff may nominate themselves or a colleague for inclusion on the Advisory Committee. The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 18, 2024.Submissions or nominations for involvement in input sessions or ad hoc work groups will continue through June 30, 2025.
All members of our Ohio University community are invited to contribute during the implementation phase. Here are ways you can get involved:
-
Implementation Advisory Committee
The advisory committee will provide input to the pillar leadership teams and ensure we are on track to reach our goals.
-
Implementation Work Groups
As activities and initiatives are defined to support the plan, pillar leadership teams will assign ad hoc work groups responsible for each activity or initiative.
-
Dynamic Strategy Input Sessions
Over the course of the implementation, pillar leadership teams will host various input sessions to help in defining appropriate activities to support the plan.
Nominate yourself or a colleague to be involved in any of these opportunities:
Mission and Vision Refresh
As the first step in the strategic planning process, President Gonzalez charged a small group of university leaders to review and refresh the University’s mission and vision with input from the full University community. The work of the Dynamic Strategy aligns with a supports the new University mission, vision and values.
A downloadable PDF of the Dynamic Strategy is available as well. The goals and strategies for each pillar are provided in an accessible web format at the links above.
