Scope and Content
The Charles J. Ping speeches collection contains speech transcripts, letters requesting Ping's presence, notes thanking him for his appearances, note cards he used when speaking, final copies of his speeches, and notes made on drafts of speeches. The collection spans from 1975 to 1997. It contains speeches made during Ping's tenure as president of Ohio University and speeches made after his retirement. The collection illustrates how time consuming this very important aspect of a university president's job is, and also demonstrates the wide variety of topics and audiences that Ping encountered while preparing and delivering his speeches.
