Ohio Fellows Program records.
Scope and Content
The Ohio Fellows Program records document the existence of the program at Ohio University from 1964 to 1970. The records outline the development of the program in the 1960s, the application process, the work involved in sustaining such a program, and the activities in which the Ohio Fellows participated. Materials include a number of speeches and articles outlining the need to educate potential leaders at Ohio University, and similar programs across the country that compared to Ohio Plan. Included are ideas for the program in the future, student rosters, financial information, general articles about leadership, student reports, and internship information. What is most interesting about the collection is perhaps the complex application process and the freshman testing used to identify potential applicants. Materials from 1968 and 1969 that deal with the application process include letters explaining recruiting events, a sample application, the interview process, and letters sent to students accepted and rejected from the program. Also of interest are student responses to the program and how they felt it aided them.
One box is devoted exclusively to communication among faculty members and students involved with the program. Materials include letters to potential seminar speakers, interoffice communication about seminars, trips, and financial information, as well as memos and newsletters to students reminding them of upcoming events. A number of the communication files are related to the upcoming trips to Boston and Washington D.C., and include reports about the trips, reminders to students, and financial logistics. Materials also outline social opportunities for students, including an invitation to a New Years Eve gathering in 1968.
The collection is divided into two Hollinger boxes, in which the materials are further divided into folders. They are in fairly good condition.

Biography of Ohio Fellows Program
The Ohio Plan, or Ohio Fellows Program, was developed by Kenneth Blanchard at Ohio University in 1964. The Ohio Plan was designed to guide gifted students and teach them how to act in leadership roles. Program participants enrolled in a series of seminars during the junior and senior year, worked at several internships during their summers, and completed a senior project with a faculty advisor. Other activities included speakers, social functions, and trips to meet influential leaders. Ohio Fellows, as the students were called, took trips to Boston and Washington D.C., and met with government and business officials in both cities. The program was very small and exclusive, and only contained between fifteen and thirty students each year. In the late 1960s, the program changed slightly and began recruiting freshman and exceptionally promising high school students. In 1967, the program was known exclusively as The Ohio Fellows Program. The program was short lived, however, and ended in 1970.
