The Thomas Hanson Herdman papers span from 1850 to 1903 and document THH's life as a minister and college president. The collection includes eight volumes of diaries, three volumes of autobiographies and essays, a commonplace book, an account book, manuscripts, printed matter and newspaper clippings.

Biography of Thomas Hanson Herdman
Thomas Hanson Herdman (THH) was a Methodist minister and president of McKendree College (Now McKendree University) in Lebanon, Illinois.
THH attended Muskingum College from 1848 to 1851, but graduated from Madison College in Antrim, Ohio, in 1856. From around 1869 to the early 1900s, THH served as a minister throughout Ohio and Illinois. He also served as presiding elder for the Lebanon District. In 1890, THH was appointed president of McKendree College. After three years, he became dean of the theological department and took over the postgraduate department in 1895. He also served on the college's Board of Trustees and was president of the board for six years. As a reward, McKendree College presented him with honorary master's and doctorate degrees.

The Ohio University Archives received the collection in 1973 as a gift from Lamiza B. Lambert.
