The John Van Cleve (JVC) copied correspondence spans from 1818-1819 and consists of copies of letters from JVC to his father and others. The original letters are in the possession of the Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library. The letters originate in Athens, Ohio, during JVC's college years.

Biography of John Van Cleve
John Van Cleve (JVC) was a son of Benjamin Van Cleve, who was among the first settlers of Dayton, Ohio, in 1796. JVC was born in 1801, being Dayton's first male child birth. In 1817 he commenced studies at Ohio University. In 1828, JVC became the owner of the Dayton Journal, and participated in contributing articles and editorials.
