Norma Vandervort Kalina scrapbook
Scope and Content
The Norma Vandervort Kalina (NVK) scrapbook dates from 1940 to 1941 and contains items collected by NVK while she was a student at Ohio University (OU). The collection includes one scrapbook filled with newspaper clippings, writings by NVK and photographs. Subjects covered in the collection are World War II, OU football and basketball teams, the reduction in the availability of Coca Cola for "coke dates," trudging to class early due to the suspension of daylight savings time and cartoons and articles about army life for soldiers. A highlight of the collection is a handwritten account by the hour of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
The scrapbook is collected in one large, flat box. The scrapbook pages are not bound and have been collected into one large folder. Most of the photographs and a few of the articles are loose and care should be taken to make sure they are not lost. The pages are weak and crumbling and need to be preserved.

Biography of Norma Vandervort Kalina (NVK)
Norma Vandervort Kalina (NVK) attended Ohio University from around 1939 to 1943. She participated in the Phi Chi Delta sorority, was a member of the Modern Dance Club, the Women's Glee Club, served on the Dad's Day Committee, and was vice president of the Booster Club. NVK was a cheerleader for at least one year and was nominated for Varsity O Queen in 1940. NVK graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor's in Education.
