Charles Herron collection

The Charles Herron (CH) collection spans from 1922 to 1926 and contains a scrapbook and songbook collected by CH while attending Ohio University (OU). The scrapbook contains numerous newspaper articles about the sports career of CH at OU. His scrapbook chronicles the basketball and baseball team seasons as well as a few personal items such as ticket stubs, a dance card and a program from a theater presentation. A notable item in CH's scrapbook is his 1926 contract to play baseball for the Clarksburg baseball club for $200 a month. The Sigma Chi songbook contains numerous songs popular in the fraternity. Also of note is a "joke" newspaper, "The Scorpion" which deals in salacious gossip about various fraternity and sorority members.

The scrapbook has some loose pages and some loose items. The Sigma Chi songbook is in excellent condition. The covers of both books are slightly worn and care should be taken when handling the items as some of the newspaper articles have become loose. There is also evidence of the removal of some items; several pages contain only the corners of newspaper articles while the full text has been removed.
