Willard J. Chamberlain scrapbook
Scope and Content
The Willard J. Chamberlain scrapbook was compiled by Chamberlain between 1911 and 1914 while he was a student at Ohio University. It documents Chamberlain's life, fraternity and other students at the university. The first several pages are devoted to an address book that many of his friends signed in 1914. His friends left jokes, quotes, their birthdays, nicknames, and addresses for Chamberlain. Next, he provided the athletic records of the football, basketball and baseball teams during the 1912-1913 school year. He included several names of players, and indicated those who were members of Phi Delta Theta. The next few pages contain personal information about social functions he attended, trips he and his friends took during school vacations, and Chamberlain's favorite professors, classes, authors, and actors at the time. The next section of his scrapbook includes pages of pictures, many of which are grouped under headings such as "Some Sweethearts of Mine," and "Just a Few Phi Delts," as well as a page devoted to college memories titled, "Do You Remember?" There are a number of pictures of his friends, the fraternity house, events on campus, and university buildings. On the pages following his collection of pictures there is a variety of memorabilia that Chamberlain assembled. He saved numerous dance cards from fraternity and sorority socials, grade cards, programs from events that took place at Ohio University, newspaper articles about athletics, his fraternity, and Ohio University, the 1914 Student Directory, and a 1912 Phi Delta Theta informational booklet. Chamberlain's materials are arranged into one large scrapbook that contains 75 pages. The book has a green cover with University seal printed on the front. Several of the pages are loose and a number of materials are falling out of the book.
