History of Nelsonville Foundry and Machine Company
Thomas Knauss, Charles Cable, Webb Poston, A.H. Carnes, and C.E. Poston incorporated the Nelsonville Foundry and Machine Company (NFMC) on April 4, 1881. John W. Jackson became manager. The NFMC was one of the few successful non-mineral extraction industries in the region, producing equipment for the coal industry. It was a major distributor of machinery throughout the Midwest when coal mining was at its peak. By 1950, the NFMC had scaled back its operations due to the decrease in mining. In 1963, the NFMC's property was sold by the Jackson family to R.V. Oakley, the owner of Sunnyville Coal Mines, and David Neiman.
