Collection on Lindley Hall
Scope and Content
The collection on Lindley Hall (LH) is made up of a scrapbook, numerous loose photographs, a certificate of residency, and a Cherry Pie Dance card. The creator of the scrapbook is unknown. The scrapbook chronicles the school year of 1966 to 1967. The scrapbook pertains exclusively to LH. The photographs and captions in the scrapbook document activities the dorm collectively participated in such as a derby race, a reception for President Baker, and a parade. The photos also show daily life in the dorm; primping in the bathroom, meetings, sing-a-longs and candid shots of residents. The loose photographs in the collection date from May of 1967 to March of 1969. These photographs are unidentified but also focus on life in and around LH. Three pages of unidentified negatives, a handwritten certificate of residency in LH and a Cherry Pie Dance card complete the collection.
The collection is housed in one flat box. The scrapbook is black and contains numerous small dated photographs with handwritten white pencil captions. The scrapbook is in good condition, the pages are not crumbling and the majority of the photographs are securely fastened in the book. The certificate of residency is folded into quarters and may experience some wear as time goes on. Preservation should be taken against losing any photos and against deterioration of the quality of the scrapbook.

History of Lindley Hall
Lindley Hall is named in honor of Jacob Lindley, the first president of Ohio University. It is located in the College Green of Ohio University.
LH was built in 1917 as a residence hall for female students. The north wing was added in 1939 and the south wing was added in 1951. The building later housed the department of Human Resources (Personnel) until they moved to McKee House in 1981. The hearing and speech clinic and the department of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences moved to Grover Center in 2001. Career Services and the Multicultural Center moved to Baker University Center in 2007.
As of 2009, LH houses the academic departments of Aerospace Studies (Air Force ROTC), African-American Studies, Anthropology and Sociology, Interdisciplinary Arts, School of Film, the McClure School of Information and Telecommunication Systems, and Military Science (Army ROTC). The Office for Multicultural Student Access and Retention (formerly the Office for Diversity) is located on the ground floor of the building.
