Biography of Dana Family
Captain William Dana emigrated from Massachusetts to Ohio in 1788, thus establishing his family as one of the first in the region. He and his descendants became involved in a number of enterprises including a farm, nursery, vinegar works, and a cannery. William's grandson, George, ran a food and dry goods market. Mrs. Elizabeth Barker (nee Dana) came to Southeast Ohio from New Hampshire in 1789. Her two sons, Joseph, Jr. and Luther were early students at Ohio University.
