John Rood papers
Scope and Contents
The John Rood papers consist of a few photographs of Rood, exhibition pamphlets, newspaper clippings about Rood, a paperback publication about Rood from the Lawhead Press titled "Wood Sculpture", and letters written to family members detailing travels and Rood's exhibitions.

Biographical Note
John Rood was born on February 22, 1902, in a log cabin in Luhrig, Ohio just outside Athens, Ohio to George D. and Frances Snedden Rood.
In the late 1920s Rood traveled to Europe for the first time and he married Mary Lawhead. With Mary he co-edited and published the literary magazine "Manuscript". Mary and John were married until the 1940s.
Rood's career as a sculptor began in Athens in 1933 and by 1937 he had his first one-person exhibit in New York. In 1944 he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota teaching sculpture and in 1948 he married Dorothy Bridgman A. Rood. He became professor emeritus in 1957 and was at the University of Minnesota until 1964.
In 1967 Rood met and married Kathrin Kressman. Together they traveled extensively and had homes in Florence, Italy, the West Indies, Minnesota, and Athens, Ohio.
