Growing up, I was always fascinated with medicine. My dad and sister had disabilities, so I spent a lot of time in hospitals and doctors’ offices. I remember realizing I also loved writing when I was about nine years old. I never knew thought of myself as a writer until my third grade teacher told me I was actually pretty good at it. So, from the age of nine, I flip-flopped between wanting to be a physician and wanting to be a writer. I thought about going to medical school. I thought about going to PA school. I thought about working at media outlet or a public relations firm. At one point, I even deeply considered a career in genetic counseling. I started and ended my college career as a journalism major, and thanks to the many professors who mentored me along the way, I finally learned that I didn’t have to choose one or the other, but that I could combine my love for communications and science. I took classes alongside my STEM friends and my journalism friends, and they taught me the value of determination and passion above all else. Now, about one month into my career as a pharmaceutical sales representative, I am confident that I have finally chosen the right path. I work at Supernus Pharmaceuticals in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, D.C. I love my job, I love this field, and more than anything, I love that I can have an impact on the physicians who treat patients who are dads and sisters just like my own.
