DESCRIPTION:Chemistry Colloquium: Dr. Nathaniel Rosi: Wed\, Mar 20\, 2024\n
\nDr. Nathaniel Rosi will be the guest speaker for the Department of Chemis
try & Biochemistry Colloquium. Dr. Rosi is the Covestro Professor of Chemis
try in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. The tit
le of the presentation is "Bundling organic molecules in metal-organic fram
eworks: expansion of compositional and structural complexity and new platfo
rms for organic synthesis". \n\n \n\nAbstract:\n\nMetal-organic frameworks
(MOFs) are porous crystalline scaffold-like materials consisting of metal-b
ased vertices interconnected by organic molecular linkers. They are widely
known for their record porosity and their promise for energy storage\, mole
cular separations\, water harvesting\, drug delivery\, catalysis\, etc. Thi
s presentation will introduce a special class of MOFs that inherently organ
ize organic linker molecules into small spatially-confined bundles. Specifi
c focus will be given to the design and synthesis of these materials as wel
l as how linker bundling can be leveraged to i) expand the structural and c
ompositional diversity of MOFs and ii) provide new opportunities for organi
c synthesis.
