2 – 4 pm

The Kennedy Museum of Art’s October Community Open Studio will begin with a conversation about David Currie's photograph  Hollyhocks  in the exhibition  what makes a river?  This image provides a lens for considering water-responsible fabric dyeing processes. Together we will think about the relationships between people and the watersheds they live within. After looking at the exhibition, participants will learn the basics of natural dye and resist techniques in an indigo dye workshop. This method of fabric dyeing is derived from the land and is made water-conscious by using collected rainwater. This can be a messy process; while gloves and aprons will be provided, participants are encouraged to wear clothes that can get stained. We will provide a bandana to dye and you are also invited to bring clean items of clothing or other fabrics.

Instructor: Aubrey jo Blue, Graduate Curatorial Assistant; with Graduate Educational Programs Assistant Hannah Moulen and student staff.
