ussing “Japan and Afghanistan from a Geopolitical Perspective" on Monday Oc
tober 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Bentley Hall 132.\n\n \n\nTakahashi is a visiting
professor at Takushoku University\, Institute of World Studies\, which he j
oined after a three-decade career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jap
an. \n\n \n\nAfter graduating from Takushoku University in 1975\, Takahashi
studied at Kabul University\, where he witnessed the military coup in 1978
\, the University of London\, and Sophia University in Tokyo\, before he jo
ined the Japanese Embassy in Pakistan. He then served in the Second Middle
East Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs\, United Nations Special Missi
on to Afghanistan\, the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan\, United Nations Pea
cebuilding Office in Tajikistan (2000-2001)\, and United Nations Assistance
Mission in Afghanistan (2001-2002). He was the Chargé d’affaires ad interi
m of the Japanese Embassy in Tajikistan\, the Japanese Ambassador to Afghan
istan (2012-2016)\, and Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affai
