About the Speakers: 
Nicole Cairns is an Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at Oregon Health and Sciences University in the Family Medicine Department. She is also a Steering Committee member on the national Women in Family Medicine Collaborative for the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine. She practices full spectrum Family Medicine including outpatient, pediatric and adult inpatient, and obstetric care. Her clinical areas of interest are in gender affirming care, addiction medicine, and pregnancy care. Her research areas of interest are in gender’s role in feedback, remediation, and leadership.
Rebekah Schiefer is a clinical social worker and associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health Science University, where she serves as the Director of Behavioral Health Education. She teaches and oversees behavioral health education for the FM residency program and also works as a behavioral health consultant in a rural family medicine clinic outside the Portland Metro area. Her clinical and research interests include teaching family oriented care in residency and identifying and intervening with at-risk pregnant and early parenting populations to help parents foster healthy attachments with their young children. She is especially interested in how we teach behavioral health and medical providers to approach medical care through a family oriented lens that includes an understanding of trauma and adverse childhood experiences and how those influence physical and mental health problems.
