DESCRIPTION:Global education event for K-6 graders\n\n \n\nProject Overview
\n\nGlobal education is defined as any program that aims to develop global
competence: the attitude\, skills\, and knowledge needed to understand and
participate in a globally connected world. The needs for global education
at P12 schools are clearly addressed by the Ohio Department of Education as
well-developed global competencies could prepare Ohio citizens to live\, w
ork and participate in the global economy. To develop students’ global com
petencies\, the Ohio Department of Education proposes to connect the classr
oom to the work and make students and teaching go global. The ultimate goa
l is to make students understand the world by meeting and interacting with
people from other countries. \n\nAligning with the Ohio Department of Edu
cation’s proposed global education\, we are delighted to hold a global educ
ation program (Global Education Fairs) at Athens P-12 schools\, with a coll
aboration with the AAPI-LEAD organization at Ohio University\, The Center f
or International Studies\, and the Athens City School District in the local
community. \n\nEvent Goals \n\nPromote P-12 students’ multicultural awaren
ess. Increase P-12 students’ knowledge of diverse cultural groups and count
ries. Develop P-12 students’ globalization citizenship. Foster a diverse\,
inclusive\, and culturally responsive environment at P-12 schools. Provide
opportunities for Ohio University international students and scholars to en
gage with local P-12 schools and increase their sense of belonging to the l
ocal community. Event Activities: \n\nInternational students at Ohio Univ
ersity will present their cultures and engage P-12 students in hands-on act
ivities to learn about different countries. Each fair will last about 2 ho
urs. \n\nStudents will be given a blank passport at the beginning of the f
air. They will tour different “countries” (the exhibition tables from dif
ferent cultural groups) and learn about their cultures. They need to compl
ete some cultural learning activities or pass a quiz to get a visa (stamp)
from that country. When they collect all stamps\, they can be granted a ce
rtificate of multicultural education.
