Pre-registration is required.
Join us for an interactive art experience engaging with artist Nicole Seisler’s public art project, Hand Pressed Souvenirs. Register for a local walk around the Ridges campus guided by Len Loomis, graduate student in Sculpture in the School of Art + Design. With blocks of wet clay in hand, participants will make impressions of built or natural details that visually “define” this place. The raw clay acts as a material to enhance our sense of touch and physical connection to our surroundings. One side of each ceramic object captures the textures lifted from the surface that the participant presses their clay into, while the other side is marked by the hand that once held it. The resulting “souvenirs” will become records of particular moments in time and place. They will be kept and put on display in the current exhibition, In Hand: Contemporary Material Engagements with the Built World.
Visit the exhibition to see how, as the Athens collection of Hand Pressed Souvenirs grows throughout the duration of the exhibition, so too does the evidence of our community’s relationship to place.
Walk Leader: Len Loomis, Graduate Student in Sculpture
This activity is in conjunction with the exhibition In Hand: Contemporary Material Engagements with the Built World, curated by Kate Hampel and Sam Dodd (Sept. 22, 2023 - March 31, 2024).
