r: \n\nAs a Professor of Internal Medicine\, Timothy J. Barreiro has demons
trated determination for working and caring for the underserved and has a c
ommitment and appreciation for diversity\, education\, and mentoring. He ha
s coached hundreds of residents going into leadership and fellowship positi
ons. He is the Director of a multidisciplinary team that researches complex
diseases of the pulmonary system.\n\nHe obtained his Doctorate of Osteopat
hy from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens\
, OH. He went on to specialty training in pulmonary\, critical care\, and s
leep at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry\, Strong
Memorial Hospital\, Rochester\, NY. It was early in his career path where
he as entitled Health Disparities Scholar\, National Center on Minority Hea
lth & Health Disparities\, by the Department of Health & Human Services Pub
lic Health Service\, National Institute of Health for his work on cultural
complexities in decision-making\, attitudes\, and skills. \n\nDr. Barreiro
has been successful in integrating his medical education with community bui
lding\, through educational projects and leadership roles. He is committed
to improving patient care through his preventable lung disease program and
research in health disparities. He is the author and co-author of over fif
ty peer-reviewed publications. \n\nHe is served over 10 years as a Health C
ommissioner for the Office of Minority Health as appointed by the Governor
of Ohio. He is a CMS appointee on the Medicare Evidence Development & Cover
age Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) Advisory committee. He is a founding member
of the task force recently commissioned by the AOA to the Committee of Equ
ity and Advancement with American College of Osteopathic Interns.\n\nHis mu
ltidisciplinary clinic is the only pulmonary office to serve the uninsured
in the city of Youngstown\, Ohio. He is a member of numerous professional s
ocieties (AMA\, ACOI\, ACCP\, ACP\, ATS)\, where he has served in leadershi
p and advisory positions. He has achieved Master Fellow at the College of
Osteopathic Interns. \n\nHe is an advocate for post-graduate education. He
advocates for policy changes that will diversify the workforce and return h
umanism to the front of medical teaching. He plans to continue his role as
a health educator and lifelong learner in hopes to better understand and ca
re for those without a voice.
