sent out an international call for submissions of poignant works that expl

DESCRIPTION:Image as Object: Alternatives 2023\nOhio University Art Gallery
\, Seigfred Hall\, 5th Floor\nExhibition: Jan. 24-Feb. 17\, 2023\nJuried by
Deborah Orloff\n\n \n\nArtist Talk: Thursday\, February 16 at 5-7pm\, Mitc
hell Auditorium in Seigfred Hall\nClosing Reception: Thursday\, February 16
at 6-7pm\, Ohio University Art Gallery\n\n \n\nAn International Photo Bien
nial hosted by the Photography + Integrated Media Program in the School of
Art + Design at Ohio University.\n\n \n\nThrough the means of photography a
nd visual media\, we commemorate — a moment\, a place\, a person\, a though
t\, a feeling\, a concept. We work to recuperate and reimagine memories\, d
reams\, and facades. How do photographs and their ‘object-ness’ suppose to
memorialize that which is otherwise always in flux? What are we trying to h
old onto\, if anything\, in our images?\n\n \n\nIn fall 2022\, Alternatives
sent out an international call for submissions of poignant works that expl
ore the artist’s interpretation of ‘image as object’\, the physical manifes
tation of that which can’t otherwise be pinned down — the tangible in the i
ntangible. Submitted works were from artists working broadly within the spe
ctrum of image-based media\, including conventional and non-traditional pho
tographic processes\, moving images and installations.\n\n \n\nThe resultin
g exhibition opens in the Ohio University Art Galleries in Athens\, Ohio Ja
nuary 24\, 2023. It is on view until February 17\, 2023.\n\n \n\nJuror: Deb
orah Orloff (www.deborahorloff.com)\nOriginally from New York City\, Debor
ah Orloff moved to Ohio to accept a teaching position at the University of
Toledo. She is currently a tenured Professor and Associate Chair of the Dep
