DESCRIPTION:NQPI Seminar | Gate-defined Quantum Dots in Monolayer and Bilay
er WSe2\, Nov. 5\n\nThe Nanoscale & Quantum Phenomena Institute Seminar ser
ies presents Dr. Hugh Churchill discussing "Gate-defined Quantum Dots in M
onolayer and Bilayer WSe2" on Nov. 5 at 4:10 p.m.\n\nChurchill is Assistant
Professor of Physics at the University of Arkansas.\n\nFor virtual meeting
information\, contact the host\, Dr. Nancy Sandler.\n\nAbstract: I will di
scuss our work to fabricate and characterize gate-defined\, accumulation mo
de quantum dots using monolayer and bilayer WSe2. The devices are operated
with gates above and below the WSe2 layer to accumulate a hole gas\, which
for some devices is then selectively depleted to define the dot. Temperatu
re dependence of conductance in the Coulomb-blockade regime is consistent w
ith transport through a single level\, and excited-state transport through
the dots is observed at temperatures up to 10 K. These devices provide a pl
atform to evaluate valley-spin states in monolayer and bilayer WSe2 for app
lication as qubits. Finally\, I will discuss some of the new experiments m
ade possible by these devices.
