llenge in condensed matter is identifying\, understanding and ultimately co
ntrolling new phases. In this talk I will introduce the concept of topology
as new means to characterize long range order and its utility for future q
uantum computing platforms. To this end\, our group has focused on discover
ing new modes and measuring their properties as a means to investigate such
states.\n\nI will focus on the combination of topology and superconductivi
ty which provides a powerful tool for investigating fundamental physics as
well as a route to fault-tolerant quantum computing. Specifically our recen
t results demonstrating the presence of Helical Hinge Zero Modes (HHZM) usi
ng exfoliated heterostructures in FeTeSe. Time permitting I will briefly to
uch on other recent advances in our lab including sensing bacteria with gra
phene\, the discovery of an Axial Higgs mode via quantum interference and f
ractional spin excitations in RuCl3.
