Join Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Associate Professor of History at The Ohio State University, as he presents an insightful lecture on understanding and teaching hard history. Dr. Jeffries is an expert on the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, and a leading voice in educating others on how to approach difficult and often overlooked aspects of American history.

About Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries:

Dr. Jeffries is the author of Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama’s Black Belt , and the editor of Understanding and Teaching the Civil Rights Movement . He has worked on several significant public history projects, including the renovation of the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, and hosts the podcast Teaching Hard History . His contributions to the study of African American history include featured appearances in documentaries like Black America Since MLK .

In this presentation, Dr. Jeffries will share strategies for effectively teaching complex and challenging history in ways that are engaging, accurate, and accessible. His work is dedicated to promoting deeper understanding of history and the contemporary implications of past injustices.
