DESCRIPTION:Wrongful Conviction Day: Richard and Janette Horton\n\nThe Cent
er for Law\, Justice & Culture will commemorate Wrongful Conviction Day on
October 8\, 2024 at 7 p.m. by hosting Richard and Janette Horton. They wil
l be joined by OHIO alumnus and Director of Policy and Engagement at the Oh
io Innocence Project\, Pierce Reed\, Esq.\n\n \n\nMr. Horton was convicted
in 2006 and sentenced to twenty three years in prison for a home invasion\,
robbery\, and shooting in Columbus that he did not commit. After serving s
ixteen years in prison\, Mr. Horton was granted a new trial thanks to emerg
ing DNA analysis technology. The Ohio Innocence Projects believes this to b
e the first instance where such evidence has led to the reversal of a convi
ction.\n\n \n\nMr. Horton will discuss his experience with wrongful convict
ion and his work with OIP to exonorate him. His wife\, Janette will discuss
the impact these cases have on those close to the accused.\n\n \n\nThe eve
nt is co-sponsored by the Ohio Innocence Project\, Ohio University's OIP-u\
, and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity.
