JOUR 2311 - Introduction to Multiplatform Reporting and Writing
This course provides a foundation for journalistic information gathering, reporting, writing, and multiplatform publication of news and strategic communication content.
Requisites: C or better in JOUR 1330 and WARNING: not JOUR 2310

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to define news.
- Students will be able to analyze and distill information into its most important elements.
- Students will be able to identify the basic elements of a news story, including the who, what, where, when, why, how and what is next.
- Students will be able to identify the common ethical issues that arise in writing news stories, including those that deal with diversity, gender, and freedom of speech.
- Students will be able to gather and analyze information through interviews and research.
- Students will be able to shoot and edit short video stories.
- Students will be able apply news writing skills across platforms, including in video, audio, and pictures.
- Students will be able to write news stories using basic journalistic formats, such as the inverted pyramid with a summary lead.
- Students will be able to use online tools, such as video, hypertext, images, and graphics to tell news stories and convey information effectively.
- Students will be able communicate information clearly and accurately.
