SASM 4500 - Bobcat Sport Consulting


This course allows  students  to  apply  the principles  and  concepts  of  sport management and to demonstrate  critical thinking,  planning, research, and ethical decision-making skills required  of  sport managers. This course applies a  variety  of  key business concepts towards effective decision-making in  the  sports and entertainment industry. This capstone features an industry project with a live client in the continental United States that is funded by each individual student. A local option (Athens-based) is offered for those who are unable to travel at no additional cost.

Requisites: Sport management major and Sr only

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to adapt and apply discipline-specific skills, abilities, theories, methodologies or experiences gained in one situation to a new situation in the sports and entertainment industry.
  • Students will be able to create client deliverables using a format, language, or visual representation in ways that enhance meaning in the sports and entertainment industry.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate a developing sense of self as a learner and build on prior experience to respond to new and challenging contexts in the field of sport and entertainment.
  • Students will be able to critically state, describe, and consider the issue associated with their assigned client project.
  • Students will be able to use information from industry and academic related source(s) to develop a comprehensive analysis and/or synthesis for the assigned sport client.
  • Students will be able to state a specific position (i.e., perspective, thesis, or hypothesis), conclusions and related outcomes throughout the sport industry client deliverables.
  • Students will be able to identify one’s own ethical core beliefs and how they shape ethical conduct and thinking in sport and entertainment.
  • Students will be able to recognize, evaluate and connect multiple ethical perspectives within decision-making situations related to the sports and entertainment industry.
