Suggested Criteria for Potential Board Candidates

  • Ability to give and to raise funds for Ohio University
  • Strong ties to Ohio University
  • Demonstrated commitment to Ohio University, including involvement with a school, campus or other program
  • Highly valued in his/her profession and/or community

Nomination Process

Suggested names for consideration can be submitted by:

  • Members of the University Board of Trustees
  • Foundation Board of Trustees (Current and Emeriti)
  • Alumni Association Board of Directors (Current & Thomas Ewing Society Members)
  • Ohio University Vice Presidents
  • Deans
  • Senior Administrators
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Friends of the University

To submit a suggested name, the Foundation Trustee Nomination Form , including a letter of recommendation, must be completed and submitted below. 

Letter of Recommendation 

The letter of recommendation should be limited to one page and contain the following information:

  • Recommender’s relationship to the potential nominee
  • Potential nominee’s ties to Ohio University
  • Influences the potential nominee has had on his/her profession and/or community
  • Influences the potential nominee could have on the Ohio University Foundation Board and also at Ohio University (or those he/she has already made)

The letter is meant to supplement the information provided on the Foundation Trustee Nomination Form .

Review of Nominations 

Suggested names, along with each letter of recommendation and the nomination form, are taken before the Ohio University Foundation Board’s Membership Committee for screening. This Committee determines whether to go forward with a nomination to the full Board of Trustees.

All names to be considered for board service are vetted with the President of Ohio University and the Vice-President for University Advancement/ President of the Ohio University Foundation.

Potential service on the Board is discussed with any candidate who is recommended by the Membership Committee and agreed upon by the President and the VP for University Advancement/President of the Ohio University Foundation.
