Professional Development Pathways (PDP) provides tools, guidance, and learning opportunities for employees and supervisors who want to invest in talent development and career growth. The following courses are new professional development opportunities available within the PDP Purchasing certificate:
Performance Management: Foundations and Goal Setting (eLearn module)
This eLearning course is designed for supervisors at OHIO. It includes an overview of the performance management cycle at OHIO, distinguishes between employee and supervisor responsibilities in the process, and provides information about the construction of written goals and objectives. During this course, you will be introduced to a variety of topics pertaining to performance management. The idea behind this course is to provide a foundational understanding of performance management and some best practices you are able to implement in the workplace.
This course, previously only available as an instructor-led course, is now an e-learning course available to university faculty and staff. Those who have already completed this training module do not need retake the course but may choose to do so at any time for a refresher. Departments are encouraged to include this course as a portion of departmental onboarding for all new employees in supervisory roles.
Estimated course length is approximately 1 hour, and there are no pre-requisites.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the reasons why performance management is used at Ohio University.
- Distinguish both supervisor and employee performance management roles.
- Recognize the stages of the Performance Management Cycle.
- Identify elements of SMART goals and write goals that align with broader departmental objectives.
- Describe the components that are needed to support ongoing performance objectives.
- Complete the Ohio University Performance Evaluation form.
