What is COMCorps?
COMCorps members create and support social and physical environments that promote good health and wellness for all. Major focuses of the program include food insecurity, nutrition education and social connectivity.
Beginning each August, COMCorps members serve a 10.5 or 11.5 month term packed with 1,700 hours of life-changing experience serving others.Through service, members and organizations will address social determinants of health with a trauma-informed approach directing members in creative, community-generated solutions to pressing local needs. Many of our COMCorps members go on to pursue careers in medicine, public health, social services and nonprofit leadership.
COMCorps members receive the following benefits:
- Living stipend of up to $21,000
- Federal student loan forbearance
- Segal Education Award of $7,395
- Training stipend of $550
- Health, vision, and dental insurance
- Federal student loan forebearance
- Childcare if eligible
COMCorps is supported by ServeOhio , the state's commission on service and volunteerism, and local community partners.
AmeriCorps is a network of local, state and national service programs that put into service more than 70,000 Americans each year in an effort to address critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. AmeriCorps is often referred to as a “domestic Peace Corps.” AmeriCorps members serve with more than 3,000 nonprofit organizations, public agencies and faith-based and community organizations across the nation.
