

Inspired to become a physician by her pediatrician, Holly Ward who is graduating with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2025, grew up in Delaware, Ohio. She received a bachelors degree in neuroscience from The Ohio State University and matched at the University of Wisconsin in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency. She will be doing a transitional year at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
What are you most excited about as you take your next step in your career?
To play a more active role in empowering my patients to get back to living the best life they can and building strong connections with them.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Find joy in the ordinary - you will eventually become competent and knowledgeable enough.
What led you to a career in medicine?
My childhood pediatrician was a huge inspiration and drew me into the idea of becoming a physician. Also my grandmother, who had multiple sclerosis and many medical issues from her disease, inspired me to pursue a career in medicine to improve patient lives. I was always fascinated by the human body and constantly wanted to understand more of the intricacies of it to overlap disease management and concepts of wellness to best treat patients.
How would you describe your time at the Heritage College?
It was a fun and challenging four years. I met some of the best people and lifelong friends, learned so much about myself, connected with amazing patients, and grew in so many ways.
Looking back on medical school, what were you most important experiences?
Socially, post-exam bike rides to Eclipse were great ways to decompress. I also love socializing with classmates on walks between classes.
Professionally, my clinical years, which really challenged me to grow and put my knowledge to use in a practical way.

I am inspired by strong relationships with others and aiming to bring light and joy to others.

Were you involved in research? If so, can you share more about what you worked on?
I participated in research regarding pediatric anesthesia and post-operative respiratory complications for children with cerebral palsy as well as the rate of unanticipated admissions following non-ENT procedures. I also completed some case reports about interesting patients!

My mentors, Dr. Brittany Willer and Dr. Joseph Riley, as well as my family, friends, and husband for their support!
What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy staying active by lifting, hiking, cycling, kayaking, and playing pickleball. I also love reading, cooking and traveling.
