Film Materials Submission

Because the School of Film considers artistic talent in the review process, you must submit supplemental materials for consideration to the program. Your submission of supplemental materials also serves as your application for talent-based scholarships.

Requirements for Supplemental Materials

These requirements are for fall 2026.

Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts Film and Honors Tutorial College Film applicants are required to submit a personal statement as well as two items for the creative portfolio:

  • Personal statement(required) - 500 words, should include the following:
    • Personal story - Describe an event in your life and how it changed you or someone close to you. This event can be dramatic and/or comedic and can be major or minor. Ultimately, we are looking for evidence of your potential as a storyteller. Please do not write about why or what led you to pursue a degree in film and television production.
    • Creative influences - How has a film, play, book, television series, painting, music, or other significant work of art inspired or influenced your own work or the way you look at the world?
    • Artistic statement - Describe your artistic goals and aspirations.
  • Creative portfolio- submit at least two of the following items:
    • Short film(s) or clips of your work shot on film, video or animation (.mp4, .mov file types or a public link to YouTube or Vimeo submissions accepted). Limit your film and video submissions to 20 minutes in total. Please use the text box in your upload/submission to tell us about the project and your role: writer, director, camera, lights, etc.
    • 5-10 Still photography images (.jpg, .tiff, .pdf file types accepted).
    • 5-10 images of drawings, paintings or digital art (.jpg, .tiff, .pdf file types accepted) .
    • 5-10 images of sculpture, models or other 3-D artwork (.jpg, .tiff, .pdf file types accepted).
    • Elements of theatrical production (these can be submitted via any of the file types accepted for still images or video) . Please limit your recordings to 20 minutes in total.
    • It is highly recommended to submit a visual element as part of your creative portfolio, but you can submit the following if you do not have a visual portion:
      • Original screenplay (10 pages maximum. If you are submitting a feature screenplay, please upload the first 10 pages.)
      • Academic essay related to film, can include a film analysis or research paper.
      • Musical or Podcast Recordings (.wav, .mp3, .mov file types or a public link to YouTube or Vimeo submissions accepted). Limit your audio submissions to 20 minutes in total.
      • Creative resume (Should highlight your creative work, activities, and/or relevant employment. This resume is distinct from your academic resume and should focus on your artistic and creative endeavors. We also welcome information about any community service you've done or part-time jobs you've held.

Submission

To submit materials to the School of Film, you must first apply to OHIO and then log in to your applicant status portal to access the submission form.
