Understanding Transfer Pathways

Ohio University recognizes transfer courses taken at all of our community college partners. You can follow general education guides, articulation agreements, program pathways or Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways as you plan your transfer to OHIO.

  • General Education Guide

A general education equivalency guide is a resource that helps students understand which courses a their current or previous institution will fulfill OHIO's general education requirements. Following the general education guide ensures students are prepared to enroll in major coursework sooner after they transfer.

  • Articulation Agreement

An articulation agreement is an official agreement between OHIO and another college or university that lays out specific transfer plans based on course offerings available at each school.

  • Program Pathway

A program pathway serves as an unofficial plan of coursework that can be completed to satisfy degree requirements. Program pathways help students ensure smooth transfer from one specific program to another based on the requirements for admission and transfer credit policies at Ohio University.

  • Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways

The Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (OGTP) provide a clear path to associate degree completion and then to bachelor’s degree completion in a related major. These transfer pathways are agreed upon between Ohio public community colleges and four-year institutions. By following an OGTP, you can ensure that you are taking coursework that will not only transfer but apply to your desired degree.

International Partners

Ohio University also maintains partnerships with some international colleges and universities. If you are attending one of the institutions listed below, you may view a list of courses that meet OHIO's general education or program requirements.

How Will Your Credits Transfer?

Ohio University recognizes several kinds of transferable credits, including those from other institutions, dual enrollment and credit by examination. Whether you’re a new first-year student or a transfer student, OHIO evaluates your earned credits to ensure you’re on track for an on-time, on-plan graduation.
