What are On-Campus Intensives?
MSN Program:
On-Campus Intensives (OCIs) are required visits to our Athens, Ohio, campus. Students will receive pertinent information, including dates and times, well in advance for planning purposes.
Our MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program requires three intensives: Orientation, Clinical and Final. Our MSN Nurse Educator (NE) program requires two intensives: Orientation and Final.
- The Orientation OCI occurs before the start of the program and provides an opportunity for students to become familiar with the program, expectations and resources. Students also meet and interact with MSN faculty and staff, as well as other students in the program.
- The Clinical OCI for our MSN FNP students typically consists of two days in between the Core and Clinical Years. This OCI is intended to prepare students for their Clinical Year and will allow students to practice and be assessed on their clinical skills in our MSN skills lab with our MSN faculty.
- The Final OCI for our MSN FNP students is typically two days during the final course. This OCI is intended to assess students' readiness to practice and will allow students to practice and be assessed on their clinical skills in our MSN skills lab with our MSN faculty as well as take a specialty certification practice exam.
- The Final OCI for our MSN NE students is typically one day during the final course. This OCI is intended to assess students? readiness to practice and consists of a teaching presentation. Students will also take a specialty certification practice exam.
DNP Program:
On-Campus Intensives (OCIs) are mandatory attendance at one of the campuses, Dublin or Athens. These experiences are offered three times for three days over the six semesters for the MSN-to-DNP students.
Students in the BSN-to-DNP attend the three OCI experiences related to DNP courses but have additional OCIs related to their focus (Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Administration). BSN-to-DNP/NP students will attend a Clinical OCI before starting their Clinical Year. Both programs require a Final OCI at the end of the program for final assessment and licensure preparation.
The OCIs provide opportunities for interprofessional education opportunities with other students from the College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP), provide interaction with peers and faculty, and provide course content using a "boot camp" format for select courses. Dates for the OCIs will be published at least three months in advance.
