Christi Camper Moore
Associate Professor of Dance, Head & Graduate Chair, Arts Administration
Christi has a diverse background as a dance educator, administrator, and choreographer. She has been teaching dance for over 25 years in various settings including public schools, community spaces, private studios, and higher education. She currently teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses at Ohio University including contemporary modern technique, dance composition, dance pedagogy, arts management, and an array of seminars, independent studies, and tutorials. She has developed new courses including Issues and Methods in Dance Pedagogy, Introduction to Arts Administration, Eyeing the Everyday, and Concepts, Communications, and Considerations in Arts Management.
Christi’s research focuses on pedagogy; she explores how dance training, curriculum, and community shape a student’s identity within the context of their studies. She contributes to the field through original research, international presentations, and publications. She has received two 1804 Endowment Grants for her research and her writing is published in a variety of outlets including Research in Dance Education, Journal of Dance Education, Dance Education in Practice, and Dance Teacher .Her professional choreography has been presented at venues in Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. She regularly collaborates with colleagues in theater and has choreographed numerous main stage musicals.
As an arts administrator, Christi’s research focuses on curriculum and community engagement. She is published in the American Journal of Arts Management , has presented at the national conferences for the Association of Arts Administration Educators, and serves as a consultant for arts programming and development with non-profit arts organizations. Christi previously worked as the State Arts Coordinator for the West Virginia Department of Education, where she oversaw all aspects of arts education including dance, music, theater, and visual arts; she has been an advocate for arts and arts education in the public and private sectors, non-profit arts organizations, and at the state and national levels; and has held supervisory roles at all levels of K-12 public arts education.
