Jessica Fletcher

Assistant Professor of Instruction, Music Therapy

Jessica Fletcher, MM, MT-BC, worked as a music therapist for ten years with Central Ohio Music Therapy, including experience in general/medical ICU, hospice, mental health/psychiatric care, juvenile corrections, and addiction/recovery. She believes music therapy is a supportive therapy in these environments, because it provides opportunities to process & practice skills in their treatment plan while getting creative and finding joy through music. Ms. Fletcher completed her internship with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at their Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh facilities, before achieving her board certification in music therapy in 2012. 

Jessica is a frequent presenter at music therapy conferences at the regional and national level, focusing on Hip Hop in music therapy. Her research has focused on her clinical work with adolescents, especially regarding the intersections of using rap & Hip Hop in Appalachia. She is passionate about the implications of Hip Hop in music therapy and has been working to deepen her understanding, by immersing herself in digital instruments, technology, and beatmaking.

Ms. Fletcher worked as an adjunct music therapy instructor for Ohio University from 2018 to 2021, with experience teaching the Special Topics in Music Therapy, Junior level, and senior level practicum courses, before being hired on full time as assistant professor in 2022. She believes in applying aspects of trauma informed care and emphasizes a growth mindset in teaching philosophy to support each student in growing into their most authentic music therapy self.

Jessica practices from a trauma informed care approach and continues to serve as Director of Community Collaboration at COMT, providing music therapy services to women and children/adolescents in addiction/recovery and mental health services.
