July 17, 2015 - January 10, 2016

Guest curated by Jakub Zdebik, Ph.D.

This exhibition explores how art conveys information through data, text, the body through physical records, spatial information through maps and the self-reflexive intentions of the artists through plans.  Artists in this exhibition eschew traditional subject matter such as landscape, portrait, still-life or even abstraction in favour of representational strategies of mapping to represent spatial information, text to convey concepts, and plans to express the artistic process.  The works from the Kennedy Museum’s collection will represent artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Lorna Simpson, Lesley Dill, Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, Chris Burden, Nancy Holt, Alice Aycock, John F. Simon Jr. and others. An extended focus will be given to a suite of works by Claes Oldenburg starting late September.
