iCUE Spotlight: Feb. 19-25, 2018

Hey there Bobcats! It's the sixth week of spring semester and there are tons of events happening on campus! From incredible photography exhibits to readings with critically acclaimed authors to dispelling the mysteries behind tornadoes and regional sports tournaments, there is something interesting for everybody to experience. Use the official OHIO Calendar of University Events to add these events to your personal calendar or send email and text reminders so you don't miss out!

Rough Sleepers Photographic Exhibit Lecture by John Gabriel Agnone (Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m., Schoonover 145): On any given night in Portland, Oregon, nearly 1,700 people spend the night outdoors. This photographic project offers a glimpse into their world. Join John Gabriel Agnone, adjunct lecturer at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication and former senior editor of National Geographic Publications, as he discusses his time with rough sleepers and why he is compelled to share their story. And remember, the exhibit remains on display through Friday, Feb. 23.

Science Cafe: Tornadoes: Unraveling the Mysteries of One of Earth's Most Powerful Storms (Wednesday, Feb. 21, 5-6 p.m., The Front Room Campus Coffeehouse, Baker University Center): Join Assistant Professor of Geography Jana Houser for an informal conversation where she shares some of the knowledge she gained in her 10 years studying tornadoes through the use of traditional and non-traditional radar observations. Houser will discuss a wide range of topics, including what we know about these storms, what we think we know about them, what we still don't know, and why we don't know it! Free and open to the public, OHIO's Science Cafes also offer a free hot beverage to the first 50 attendees and the chance to win a T-shirt!

A Reading with Robert Long Foreman, 2017-18 Visiting Writer in Fiction (Wednesday, Feb. 21, 7:30-9 p.m., Walter Hall Rotunda): Don't miss a reading with visiting nonfiction writer Robert Long Foreman, presented by the OHIO Program in Creative Writing. The event is free and open to the public with a book signing and reception to follow. Robert Long Foreman's work has appeared in literary magazines since 2006. His essays and short stories have won a Pushcart Prize and contests at The Journal, Willow Springs, American Literary Review and The Cincinnati Review , and five of them have been listed as "Notable" in the Best American Essays anthologies.

Championships at OHIO(Feb. 21-25, Aquatic Center and Bird Arena): This year, OHIO is host to both the Mid American Conference swimming and diving championships and the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) playoffs!

  • Swimming and Diving MAC Championships (Wednesday, Feb. 21 - Saturday, Feb. 24, Aquatic Center): OHIO Swimming and Diving is the host the 2018 Mid American Conference Championships at the Aquatic Center! Don't miss this chance to support your Bobcats!
  • CSCHL Playoffs hosted by OHIO Hockey (Friday, Feb. 23 -  Sunday, Feb. 25): The CSCHL is considered the elite division of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and OHIO is assured at least second place in the CSCHL standings. Your Bobcats open tournament play at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 but tournament passes for all games are avaiable.
