With Pride Week beginning March 26, here are some of the other upcoming events sponsored by Ohio University’s LGBT Center this semester.
The "Beyond Trans: Does Gender Matter?" event featuring Temple University Professor and author Heath Fogg Davis will take place 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 5. He is the author of a recent acclaimed book by the same name as his lecture. He also will take part in an informal discussion at a pizza meet and greet at noon on Tuesday, March 6, in Bentley Hall 001.
On Tuesday, March 6, Professor Fogg Davis will join Susan Burgess, an Ohio University professor of political science, for a book release panel for the “LGBTQ Politics: A Critical Reader,” at 4:30 p.m. in Baker University Center 231.
This week's Transgressive TV event will take place at noon on Wednesday, March 7, inside the LGBT Center located at 354 Baker University Center. It will focus on expanding definition and understanding of women and feminine identities with the “Glee” TV show episode titled, "I Kissed a Girl.”
The Athens International Women's Day Celebration and Potluck will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 64 University Terrace in Athens, Ohio. The event will celebrate women's achievements and is a rally for gender equality and empowerment.
Tres Vidas: A Celebration of International Women's Day also takes place Thursday, March 8, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Glidden Hall. The event features a chamber music theatre experience based on the lives of three legendary Latin American Women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni.
The fifth annual Queer Studies Conference titled, "Queering Borders: Immigration and Crossing Boundaries" will take place March 29-30. The Call for Proposals deadline is March 9.
The LGBT Center frequently hosts Rainbow Reads from noon to 1 p.m. The book club explores intersectional queer narratives in literature. The last two events this semester will take place on March 23 and April 23.
The LGBT Center hosts Crafternoons on Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m. These biweekly sessions explore pride-filled craftivism while having fun and interacting with others.
